What causes hearing loss?
Hearing loss can be caused by several factors. Most commonly, hearing loss is caused by aging, exposure to loud noises, genetics, and certain medications or illness. The National Institute of Health approximates nearly 36 million American adults have some degree of hearing loss. Breaking that number down further estimates that 18% of American adults between 45-64 yrs, 30% of adults aged 65-74 and 47% of adults over 75 years old have hearing loss. Only 1 out of every 5 people who could benefit from hearing aids is wearing hearing aids.
