Governor Signs Trucking and Consumer Protection Bills

Governor Pat Quinn signed two bills Monday, one to increase consumer protection and a second bill to help reduce fuel and equipment costs for Illinois trucking companies. The new consumer protection laws cover a range of issues including penalties for financial exploitation of the elderly, protections for consumers in the event of a car dealership bankruptcy and creating additional levels of security for personal and identity information. The governor also signed a measure which allows IDOT to issue necessary permits for a truck hauling a load in excess of 80 thousand pounds if it is traveling less than five miles and will not negatively impact pavement conditions along its route.
