Please Don't Buy A Crust For Your Thanksgiving Pumpkin Pie

Try my Daddy's crust recipe. It's easy to make and is absolutely delicious

PEORIA, IL - When it comes to serving Thanksgiving dinner, you can't forget the pumpkin pie. When you buy your ingredients, please don't buy a pie crust. It is so easy to make one, and it will taste so much better. My Daddy, Rev. Bartlett Wilkerson, came on Living Well over the summer to share his recipe for pie crust. Please, please, give it a try. By the way, it also works great for pot pies.

Here is his recipe:

Rev. Wilkerson's Famous Pie Crust

1/2 cup Liquid shortening

1/4 cup milk (My Dad uses non-dairy creamer because he is lactose intolerant)

1 3/4 cup  of flour

1/4 teaspoon of salt

Mix liquids. Then, add flour and salt mixture.

Instructions:

Roll out crust between layers of waxed paper.  Remove the top layer of waxed paper and place baking pan on the crust. Flip the pan and mold the crust into the pan.  Repeat as necessary to cover the full bottom of the pan. Make sure all areas of the crust are sealed before pouring in prepared cobbler filling.

This recipe is for a 9" pie crust.
