The Meaning Of Hanukkah

There is a reason why there are 8 candles on a menorah

PEORIA, IL - In 168 BC, a Syrian king tried to put an end to Judaism. He marched into Jerusalem, vandalized and desecrated the Temple, and erected an idol on the altar. Three years later, a group of Jews (the Maccabees) fought the Syrian army and reclaimed the land. Then, they had an 8 day celebration of Praise to God to rededicate the temple. That celebration of religious freedom is what we now call Hanukkah. Joining me now with more about how Hanukkah is celebrated is Susan Katz from the Jewish Federation of Peoria.
