A legendary dinner theater is getting a major upgrade

The Barn II in Goodfield will be completely remodeled.

GOODFIELD - For Mary Simon, over 40 years of memories live in these barn walls. 2 years ago her dinner theater was ruined by a tornado, but she still reminisces on the good times.

"It was a happening place, it was really fun" said Simon, owner of The Barn II.

Mary has been performing at the Barn II in Goodfield since 1975. But it's not just tornadoes that have set her back.

"Due to no fault of our own, it has flooded twice so we've got a mess, welcome to my nightmare" said Simon, as she gestured to her ruined lobby.

All the damage forced Mary to close down her beloved barn.

"I went through denial, then I went through acceptance and it was a real struggle to finally accept the barn was done" said Simon.

Then, a light of hope. Her friend Abby Reel stepped up with a loan and a plan to renovate the space.

"She said let's bring the barn back and make it a whole complex with the brick house and we will have weddings and community events and hopefully grade school events here" said Simon.

The new space will be called The Barn III. For Mary, it's a dream come true.

"To have a re-birth here is absolutely amazing" said Simon.

She said the response from the community has been overwhelming.

"Places where they have good food, good service good food you come back. Same thing with Barn III now, good production good food good service, hey why not?" said Marty Ohler, a long-time attendee of the Barn II.

"I have lived my passion, my whole life, how lucky was i to be able to for 40 years, be able to do what I love to do" said Simon.

Perhaps showing if you love your job, you won't work a day in your life.

"I still feel like I'm one of the luckiest people in the world" said Simon.

Their plan is to open around December 2018. You can help build this new barn by donating here.
