Activists walk to end deadly disease

PEORIA - Hundreds of people gathered Saturday, ready to walk to raise awareness for a deadly disease.

The 11th Annual Walk to Defeat ALS took over Dozer Park Saturday.

ALS affects a person's muscles and nerves, eventually taking away the ability to move, eat, or even breathe. The walk raises money for research and local services to help people living with the disease.

"By having the walk here, we are funding all of the programs and services that are offered in Peoria," says program manager Kendra Albers. "The money is raised here, it stays here. And it really does make an impact on the individuals that are living in this community with this disease."

This year's walk raised $116,000.
