Bradley students thank legislators

PEORIA - Grateful and thankful are two words students used to describe how they about lawmakers who visited their campus.

Monday, Bradley University students gathered to express gratitude to those who helped pass a budget that allowed many of them continue their education.

This year's budget funded the Monetary Assistance Program. This year, that program granted $10.5 million dollars in scholarships.

"Whenever mom sees less load that has to be taken off her back, shes happy. There's more scholarship money to be had, shes happy amd shes proud" said Bradley senior, Gerald Regep

Several students said they had no idea how they would've continued their college education if it wasn't for the MAP scholarship.

Representative Mike Unes says these students shouldn't have been in this situation

"This is history now and hopefully we move forward and work together build off some of the common ground that we have because we cant do this again to our state or to our higher education or to human services or any of this most vulnerable populations" said Unes.

More than 1,200 Bradley students are benefiting from the MAP scholarship this school year. 40% of those recipients are minority students, helping make Bradley a more diverse campus.
