Brian Asbell selected for appointment to Peoria County Sheriff

Peoria County board will vote next week

PEORIA COUNTY, Ill. -

Brian Asbell has been selected for formal appointment to the position of Peoria County Sheriff.

Peoria County Board Chairman, Andrew Rand, finished candidate interviews for the vacant position Friday. Chairman Rand, along with a selection committee made up of Republican County Board members Stephen Morris and Jim Fennel made the decision to select Asbell for formal appointment. It will be brought to the full County Board for confirmation on August 10, 2017.

"Mr. Asbell's distinguished law enforcement career and commitment to Peoria County are just two of the many reasons that the committee believes he is the correct choice." Rand says.

The new Sheriff must be a Republican and must reside within Peoria County.

The position was left open after the retirement of Michael McCoy on June 29th. McCoy now serves as Chief of the Washington Police Department.
