Change Peoria holds a vigil for the protesters of Charlottesville at Peoria's Riverfront Park

Here in Central Illinois dozens of people came down to Peoria's riverfront to show solidarity and remembrance for the victims of the Charlottesville protest.

Organizers of Change Peoria say that it's especially important to stand up against racism in Peoria.

Doug Johnson is Change Peoria’s organizer. He says, "it's super important that people in communities like Peoria, where we have studies that show that Peoria is one of the worst cities in the country for African Americans to live and a city that is currently being sued for racial police issues, that there are allies out there and when things like this happen, that we should come together as a community and show our support and solidarity."

This rally is one of dozens around the country to show solidarity with the counter protesters down in Charlottesville.
