Clean energy breakthrough in Illinois

PEORIA, Ill. - Local leaders and business owners came together today to commemorate one year of the biggest clean energy breakthrough in Illinois history.

The Future Energy Jobs Act (FEJA) offers jobs and big economic benefits to central Illinois, including what will be a new 7,000 panel, 2-megawatt solar array in Tazewell County.

Speakers at the ceremony pointed out that clean energy, including wind, solar and energy efficiency, is responsible for 120,000 jobs in the state and is growing at a rate 6 times that of the overall economy.

"We're not just talking about low income jobs, we're talking head of household, family-living type jobs," says Tim Sprout of IBEW Local 34. "These provide benefits, something you can go home at night and take care of your family [with]."

In attendance at the commemorative ceremony was State Senator Dave Koehler, who had a part in getting the legislation signed.

"You're starting to see an explosion right now of solar, because solar is ready for Illinois," says Sen. Koehler. "We used to say that you had to be in Texas or had to be in Arizona to be able to take advantage of solar. No, you don't, the technology is there."
