Counselors on hand for those who knew family involved in deadly fire

Police say Eric Ringenberg killed his children before setting the fire

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - A community is mourning after a Bloomington father kills his children and sets his home on fire before killing himself.

Neighbors paid tribute to the lives lost Thursday by laying flowers on the front lawn of the Ringenberg home.

Police say 33-year-old Eric Ringenberg first took his infant and two-year-old to the basement and strangled them. His home survillance video shows he then took the cell phones in the house before setting the fire. Ringenberg's wife, Pameal, woke up when she heard the smoke alarm. She ran outside to get help when she couldn't find her phone of her family.

Both Eric and Pamla worked at State Farm, where grief counselors were on hand Thursday.
