Eddie Russell Jr's family claims their son was executed

PEORIA, Ill - “Edward Russell Junior did not deserve to die, he did not deserve to die,” said Eric Russell, community activist for Justice League Of Illinois.

The Russell family held a press conference Tuesday outside of the Peoria police department.

Joined by a Chicago-area attorney and community activist the family called for a full and transparent investigation. Though no lawsuit has been filed they're not ruling one out. Family attorney Andrew Stroth said Russell Junior was executed.

“The family will pursue every possible legal strategy to get justice for their son at this stage, at this stage the family has to bury their son,” said Civil Rights Attorney Andrew Stroth

As the family seeks answers, their attorneys hope for the truth something Peoria County State's Attorney Jerry Brady guarantees.

“Anytime that we're asked to look at a shooting regardless of whether it's officer-involved there's a great deal of pressure, obviously because we want to make certain we administer our portion of justice as best as we can,” Brady said.
