Elementary kids spend gym period playing with local veterans

CREVE COEUR, Ill. - LaSalle Elementary students got the chance to spend their gym period with some local heroes.

The Creve Coeur school was one location to host Nets for Vets, a fundraiser supporting the Greater Peoria Honor Flight.

Local veterans volunteered to play basketball and other games with students.

"They're a really good great organization and I know a lot of other schools in the area that have done this fundraiser," says Toleia Hill of LaSalle Elementary. "So I thought it would be something nice to bring to our school because the schools really good about fundraisers and giving back to the community."

Student's families donated money to the cause, netting the Nets for Vets fundraiser more than $5,000.
