Eureka College has a moment of silence to remember a fallen Illinois State Trooper

EUREKA - A community comes together to remember a fallen hero.

Illinois State Trooper Ryan Albin died in car accident, while on duty, back in July.

Albin first joined the force in 2006. He was a K-9 officer who worked in Pontiac's district 6. He left behind a 6 year old daughter, and a 2 year old son.

Darrell Crouch was Albin’s college football coach. He says, "Like his thing was high energy. He was a guy that was serious when he needed to be and he could also lighten the mood too. He was that guy that was like your best friend, but he was the guy that you could count on just as well. Like really good hard work ethic. He comes from really strong mid western value, so he was a great guy to have around us.”

On Saturday night, before Eureka College's football game, fans stopped to remember Albin.

His mom, Becky Albin says, "Ryan spent a lot of years here and he enjoyed being here, so it meant a lot to us."

He played for the Eureka Red Devils as a defensive end all 4 years of his college career, which is why Saturday night, at Eureka's home opener, on their brand new field, was the perfect time to honor him.

"It's a great, you know home opener night for that, plus to be able to honor Ryan two pretty good things," says Crouch.

Albin’s friends and family came together to remember him. For those lucky enough to have known him well, they say they will never forget his fun loving personality.

"Ryan was a friend to most everybody, and he was always one that gave 100%," says Becky Albin.

"He was a great person, you know it was a very sad and tragic event to lose him, but like just the memory things that you think about him and his smile and all of the great things that he did just in that short time, and how he treated people too," says Crouch.
