DUNLAP, Ill - The Dunlap community came together to dedicate a baseball press box to someone they call a local hero.
Community members came together to honor Nicholas J. Murphy, a navy seaman from Dunlap hit by a car in 2016. Murphy graduated from Dunlap high school in 2015 and was a star baseball player.
Tonight the school's baseball team had a special ceremony to dedicate their press box to him.
Nearly 150 people donated money to make this dedication possible.
Ahead of tonight's game his loved ones reminisced on Nick. Many also said the love and support from the Dunlap community shows how loved he truly was.
“One thing you figure out is how many lives your kids lives touch,” said Nick’s father Ed Murphy. “Nick was a great kid and had a lot of friends,so it was a real testament to him.”
