Family Remembers Fourth Homicide Victim

Michael Krus was killed Wednesday morning in Peoria

PEORIA - A shooting on Peoria’s south side leads to the city's fourth homicide of the year.

"We want him to be laid down to rest, you know, we want rest. We want peace."

Family members honored 23-year-old Michael Krus Wednesday night at the same intersection where gunfire took his life.

"Too many young men are dying from shooting and it needs to stop. It needs to stop,” said relative, Katrina Krus.

Shot Spotter sent police to the intersection of Starr and Westmoreland around 9:45 Wednesday morning. That's where officers found Krus laying on the ground.

"We were called later this afternoon up to the surgical ICU at St. Francis where he was pronounced dead at 2:33 this afternoon."

Peoria county corner Jamie Harwood says Krus, who was shot multiple times, died after surgery. He too is calling for an end to violence in Peoria.

"It's a great place to live, but we have this violence issue, that unfortunately at this pace, isn't going to go away anytime soon,” Harwood said.

Police in the river city are investigating two homicides since February 28th.

"We need some action. We need some action in Peoria with our youth and mentoring and elevating these youth, so they don't turn to violence at age 23,” Harwood said.

"There's just too many shootings going on. Too many young black men dying, I mean, it's sad, it's very sad and it shouldn't be like this. Not in the south end,” Krus said.

For now, the family is looking for justice and help.

"If anybody knows anything, please get in contact with Crime Stoppers or the police department,” Krus said.

Peoria police say no arrests have been made in connection to the shooting.

They're asking anyone with information to come forward to them or to call Crime Stoppers.
