Governor Rauner is working with local leaders to help create local jobs

PEORIA IL - Governor Bruce Rauner is working with local leaders to find ways to create more local jobs.

Rauner, Peoria Mayor Jim Ardis, and many small business owners had a round table discussion at the Peoria Next building, Friday January 12th.

The group covered a wide range of topics, like better education, and how to attract young talented people to the area. But Rauner says the biggest issue is the high property tax for businesses.

He says he has a way to help fix that tax issue.

"I'll be introducing a budget here in the next few weeks that brings down the income tax in Illinois, we need to reduce it. We've also introduced legislation to be able to freeze local property taxes, but freezing isn't the issue, it's local control."

Rauner says residents and local leaders should have more of a say in either raising or lower the property tax

He believes that will bring down the property tax burden significantly within a couple of years.
