High School Students Learn in Unique New Cadaver Lab

Hands on Experience for students

PEKIN, Ill - Some of the top high school students from across the area are getting the chance to study human anatomy, in a way that most never imagined was possible.

Students from, Morton, Pekin, Olympia and Tremont high schools were all selected for the opportunity to enroll in a Cadaver class. The class is hosted by Pekin Hospital. It's one of only two programs like it in the entire nation.

“For high school students, to come in and  be able to handle a scalpel and some other equipment, and find anatomy themselves,  dissecting muscles and organs, is just an incredible and unique experience," said Volkan Sumer local physician.

The students attend the class twice a week and say it's already impacting their futures.

Gabrielle Stiles a senior at Pekin says,  “I want to actually be a veterinarian.” She added, “Learning another anatomy is going to help me in the future towards looking at bigger cadavers”.
