History at the Peoria County Sheriff's office

PEORIA, Il - A new captain is named at the Peoria County Sheriff's Office, Ronda Guyton is the first black woman to achieve the rank.

The changes are the result of Mike McCoy's resignation as sheriff to become the police chief in Washington.

Guyton, a 24 year veteran of the sheriff's office hopes her experience and involvement in the community will help with the transition.

“I can help expand on what we need in the jail,” Guyton said. She adds, “We want to reduce recidivism, as well as understand the issues with mental illness.”

Guyton ranks 3rd in command outranked only by the Chief Deputy and the Sheriff.
