Hundreds Attend Bob Michel's Funeral

PEORIA, Ill - Today, Central Illinois said goodbye to an honorable political figure.

Former House Minority Leader and Peoria Congressman Bob Michel was eulogized Saturday as a leader who embodied humility and compassion.

Hundreds filled the seats at the Renaissance Coliseum, including family, friends and people who were affected by his career.

When asked if the former Congressman would be buried at Arlington Cemetery in Washington D.C.

Michel replied saying, “That Bob Michael is not too big to be laid to rest in his hometown of Peoria, Illinois.”

“He was a one of a kind role model, and while his accomplishments in public life make us all so very proud, it his values and character that he instilled in each of us, that means the most to us, and that will be his lasting legacy,” Scott Michel said of his father.

Michel passed away last week at the age of 93.

The political leader was not afraid to work across the aisle which is what many say made him so well liked and helped him advance in politics
