Local school receives donation

PEORIA - A volunteer organization is helping a local school further its students education.

The Rotary Club of Peoria-North presented Roosevelt Magnet School with a donation of $3,563 Thursday afternoon. The money will go toward a weekly scholastic magazine for each student. The magazine is a tool that encourages students to read on their own every day.

"Rotary has adopted Roosevelt as our school," said Jenny Bridenbaugh, from the Peoria-North Rotary Club. "And so what that means is we just partner with them and learn how we can best support them. We spend volunteer hours here reading to students in the classroom. We support them with grants throughout the year, such as this magazine grant. We've done a little free library outside."

The Rotary Club looks to do more for their adoptive school in the future, including help improve their courtyard.
