Local students learn about state government

NORMAL - State Senator Jason Barickman is helping students learn more about state government.

He hosted a youth advisory day on Wednesday, immersing students in the world of politics, giving those in the youth advisory council an opportunity to meet elected officials and local leaders. They also worked in small groups discussing new ideas for legislation.

"I think that we can tap into their energy and ideas, and hopefully wet their appetite for whether it's a career in public service, or it's simply serving their community in some capacity as their growing in their life," said Republican Jason Barickman, State Senator of the 53rd District.

During their next meeting at the state capitol, amidst the spring legislative session, the group chosen at Wednesdays council will get to debate their idea and give their proposal for further action.
