MORTON - The Morton Fire Department is mourning the loss of one of its own.
42-year-old Joshua Greene was killed late Thursday night in a crash in the Trails of Timber Oak subdivision in Morton.
Greene was the passenger in a 1955-pickup truck, driven by 52-year-old Glen Abney. Morton's Police Chief says the truck was driving at a high rate of speed when it crossed the center line and hit a parked vehicle head-on. Due to the age of the truck, it's not required to have safety belts. Greene was ejected from the truck and died on the scene. As of Friday afternoon, crash reconstruction results were still pending.
Abney was treated for injuries from the crash and cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, DUI, and aggravated DUI.
A post on the Morton Fire Department's Facebook page says Greene joined the department in 2000 as a paid-on-call member.
"Josh was known to all of us as friendly, always smiling and involved in our department in many ways," wrote Fire Chief Joe Kelley. "Our hearts go out to Josh's wife, children, and his entire family."
Funeral arrangements for Greene are pending.
WMBD continues to follow efforts to locate Alexis Scott.
