Millennials Riskiest Drivers According to New Study

Distracted drivers found in every age group

NORMAL - A report from AAA shows millennial drivers are the worst in the country. 88% of people ages 19 to 24 engaged in at least one risky behavior behind the wheel in the past 30 days. Speeding, running red lights, and texting... It seems millennials are taking big risks behind the wheel and cell phones are at the center of the issue.

ISU Junior Marisa Heitkotter told us, "Our phone is basically stitched onto our hands and we just are always distracted by it. We constantly have it on us."

ISU Senior Patrick Kelly added, "I have a few times. Not as much as some of my friends though. I've noticed that somebody will have it on the steering wheel, some people are looking down, but I like to think that I don't do it as much."

Insurance experts say these risky behaviors contribute to higher insurance and death rates.

State Farm Agent Axel Jimenez explained, "Anything you do that takes you away from the task at hand is bad. Eating fries is bad, doing your makeup is bad, and shaving is bad. So, anything that is not driving is bad."

The statistics do improve for older drivers, but not by much.

Jimenez again, "The wisdom of driving a car for more than 10 or 20 years tells us that if you do anything other than drive, you are probably going to find yourself in an accident or a speeding ticket or something not good."

Accidents and tickets can affect your insurance rate. Illinois law says all drivers must have auto insurance.
