Miller Park Zoo hosting Animal Enrichment Day

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - A local zoo is hosting an event to give guests a chance to see what it's like for animals to be themselves in the wild.

Miller Park Zoo is having its Animal Enrichment Day: Come Out and Play Edition on Saturday, February 17, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

The event allows guests to see how zookeepers make animals lives at Miller Park Zoo more exciting by encouraging the natural wild behavior of the creatures.

Enrichment is the process of enriching an animal's environment to stimulate natural behaviors such as foraging and hunting.

"Animal care staff at the zoo work hard to keep things innovative and exciting for the animals in their care," says Miller Park Zoo Director Jay Tetzloff. "Guests will see some of the more unique and creative ways our keepers work to stimulate natural behavior."

There will be keeper talks planned throughout the event for guests to learn about animal behavior.

There will be a play area indoors by children and face painting.

The event is free with zoo admission.
