New address for Peoria steel home

PEORIA, Ill - An iconic steel house built more than 80 years ago is changing its address. Wheels O’ Time in Peoria will be the new location to what many dubbed "The Carefree Home".

Designed in the 1930's the steel homes were built to be resistant to storms, termites, flames, floods and other foes. Organizers of the project are excited to share the piece of central Illinois history.

We're very excited the plan will be to get the house on the foundation and to get the exterior paint done this fall,” said Mark Johnson project manager. He adds, “We need to get new windows and doors installed and then we will have the winter to work on the interior.”

The fully restored house will be open to the public when Wheels O’ Time begins its new season next May.
