New proposal for downtown hotel

Another developer is planning to propose a Downtown Bloomington hotel

Bloomington, Ill. - A developer in the Twin Cities is coming forward with a new plan for a hotel in downtown Bloomington.

Jim Pearson, President of The Vantage Group, told council Monday, his company believes adding a hotel and conference center onto Grossinger Motors Arena should be a top priority for the city.

Pearson currently serves on the city's planning commission.

The hotel would house about 100 rooms and a restaurant,  and be built on a parking lot, across the street from the arena. The conference center would include parking. The plan also shows a shopping and apartment complex, designating the downtown square a city park, a new Connect Transit transfer station, and center for social agencies.

Pearson says his company is going to submit a plan over the next two weeks, asking for a public-private partnership.

Mayor Tari Renner says the project sounds interesting, but will have to thoroughly vetted.
