Nonprofit hopes to lower unemployment rate

PEORIA, Ill - A central Illinois nonprofit is doing their best to help change lives all while lowering the unemployment rate.

Helping Hands Resource Center has partnered with RMH Foods in Morton, to employ as many as 100 low income residents in the Peoria area. Program directors say those who are hired could bring up to $1.9 million to the cities south side through salaries.

More than a dozen Peorians have already started working there, and new employees are being added every two weeks.

“ Great thing for the city all the way around,” said Ron Vale, Director of HH. He adds, “For those individuals it provides sales tax, it provides registration for cars, and more opportunies where generally individuals would not have them.”

Applications will be taken through October 15th, those interested can fill them out in person at Helping Hands.
