Opera House demolition postponed

CANTON - Canton's Opera House won't be coming down as soon as originally thought.

A representative for the Spoon River Partnership for Economic Development tells WMBD the demolition isn't expected to start for another three to four weeks. Work was originally slated to start earlier this week.

The building was deemed unsafe after an explosion in Downtown Canton in November 2016. The building's owner, Kert Huber, decided not to rehabilitate it, instead opting for the demolition.
