Operation Honor Guard raises more than $11,000

The money will help cover out-of-pocket expenses, like uniforms.

PEORIA, Ill. - It was a team effort all day at WMBD and across Central Illinois on Wednesday, to raise money for Operation Honor Guard. Thank you for making us proud.

WMBD partnered with local veterans at three locations to raise money for the organization. Central Illinois donated $11,516.16 for this group of veterans.

Operation Honor Guard organizes military funerals for families that can't afford it. The money raised will help many of the volunteers cover out-of-pocket expenses, including their uniform, which can cost several hundred dollars.

Veteran volunteers say the Honor Guard is a great way to honor those who served.

"Don't forget your veterans. Don't forget they... they served their purpose. We've done our job and that's what it's all about," said Bill Davies, with the American Legion Post 2 in Peoria.
