Organization takes stand against proposed cuts to Peoria Fire Department

PEORIA, Ill. - A Peoria organization is taking a stand against proposed cuts to the fire department.

The city tasked the fire chief with cutting more than $1 million, which could mean decommissioning a fire truck and not filling 11 vacant positions.

Change Peoria held a town meeting to inform people about why they feel that cut would impact your safety.

"This affects every single person in the city of Peoria, no matter where you live, no matter what part of town you live in, or how much money you make, these cuts will affect the safety of your family, your friends, yourself it'll affect everyone." Anthony Walraven says.

The organization is urging people to talk to their council members to vote against the proposed cuts.
