Outback Steakhouse to move to Eastland Mall

Project leaders announced the move on Wednesday

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Outback Steakhouse is relocating to Bloomington's Eastland Mall.

Project leaders announced the restaurant's move at Wednesday's Planning Commission meeting. The restaurant will be built in the parking lot of the former Macy's, at the intersection of Empire and Veteran's Parkway.

The project will take away more than 100 parking spaces, but city leaders say they're not worried.

"The mall, as it exists, has about 542 extra spots," explained Katie Simpson, Bloomington's City Planner.

Justin Boyd, chair of the Planning Commission said, "We are reducing an oversized parking lot. I will make that clear. I think that's a wise move from just a planning perspective so I'm excited to see that."

If the council approves the plan, project leaders expect to start construction in the spring and have the restaurant open before next Thanksgiving.
