Peoria mayor hopes to serve another term

Ardis has been serving as mayor since 2005

PEORIA - Peoria Mayor Jim Ardis wants to become the longest serving mayor in the city's history announcing his campaign for re-election today.

Ardis will begin circulating petitions tomorrow in an effort to win a 4th term.

He's already put together a group of supporters including Congressman Darin LaHood and State Representatives Dave Leitch and Jehan Gordon-Booth.

The mayor had some controversy in this most recent term during the so-called Twittergate episode and while he says most people know about it, it doesn't define him.
"I think in the balance of everything that's happened over the last 11 years as mayor and six years on the city council before that. I think people will take the all things into consideration," Ardis said.

Ardis said he isn't ready to hand over the position and wants to keep the momentum going.
