Police release new details in officer-involved shooting of robbery suspect

A peoria man is dead after an officer involved shooting

PEORIA - Eddie Russell Jr. died Wednesday after being shot by police. This all started with a call about a bank robbery.

Just before 1pm on Wednesday afternoon, police responded to an armed robbery at Mid-Illinois bank and trust near the intersection of Sterling and Forrest Hill in Peoria.

Police quickly identified the suspect as Eddie Russell Jr.

They surrounded a family home on the 2800 block of Sheffield ... Less than a half mile away.

Officers tried to reach Russell for several hours.

Police say shortly before 4pm, Russell walked aggressively out of the home with a gun.

The police chief says 5-6 rounds were shot by police, and least one of the bullets hitting and killing Russell. Chief Mitchell doesn't believe any of the officers had body cameras on.
