Possible SSA increase for Westlake Shopping Center

PEORIA, Ill - Tuesday city council pushed back a discussion on another Special Services Area tax for the Westlake Shopping Center.

A .75% levy was implemented for the area back in 2014. Developers now want another quarter of a percent for additional security, improved lighting, and new sidewalks.

Westlake has been under heavy SSA discussing for the past months. Council recently approved a 1% levy for the Portillo's coming to Peoria.

The Portillo's tax will be imposed solely on those who choose to dine at the restaurant, while the proposed Westlake tax would be imposed on anyone who shops in the plaza.

Council plans to discuss this further at the next council meeting on December 12th.
