Report: Caterpillar facing "rare" tax fraud accusations

PEORIA - The federal government may be accusing Caterpillar of tax and accounting fraud, according to a report in the New York Times.

The government commissioned a report that says the company avoided paying billions in U.S. taxes through its Swiss subsidiary, CSARL. The Times says it's unclear whether the government will act on those findings.

According to the paper, it's extremely rare for an international company to be accused of fraud. A spokesperson for CAT says it hasn't received a copy of the government's report.

This comes just a week after federal agents raided Caterpillar facilities in Peoria, East Peoria, and Morton.
