Squad car hits, kills woman on Route 66

PONTIAC - Update: Tuesday, August 22, 2017

The victim of the crash has been identified as Rita Murphy. The Livingston County Coroner says Murphy's injuries were consistent with a person being hit by a vehicle.

Monday, August 21, 2017

A woman died early Monday morning after she was hit by a Pontiac Police Department squad car.

It happened just after 1:00 A.M. on Route 66 near Howard St. in Pontiac. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Police aren't releasing her identity right now, pending the notification of her family.

Illinois State Police are investigating what caused the crash. The officer involved is on non-disciplinary, paid administrative leave.
