MCLEAN COUNTY, Ill. - Students in McLean County put down their phones and spent some time in nature Tuesday.
Sixth graders from Olympia Middle School spent te day at Sugar Grove Nature Center for a Nature and Science Field Day.
They took hikes, roasted s'mores, and learned about animals and their habitats.
Students say they enjoyed leaving the tech behind and learning about the outdoors.
"We usually bring our cell phones, but it's kind of nice to have everybody focused on everything else, like the outdoors and learning about things out here," says 6th grader Peyton Elgin.
The Illinois Commerce Commission was on hand to give the students a lesson on rail safety. With high speed rail becoming more common in McLean County, the ICC says it's important to educate children on the safety regulations.
