Thousands of bikers ride to end breast cancer

One woman said she wouldn't be here today without their support.

Bartonville, IL - Thousands of motorcycles hit the streets Saturday, with the hope of ending breast cancer. It's part of the 10th annual Bikers for Tata's event, which kicked off Saturday in Bartonville. Ten years ago, Nancy Borum and her friends decided to take action to fight breast cancer.

"They reach out to me and say will Bikers For Tatas cover this expense? Or cover this expense? And we always say yes" said Borum.

They would ride their motorcycles to raise money for treatments. Nancy has seen multiple family members suffer from this cancer.

"It was my mom, my sister's now a survivor, I've lost a grandmother an aunt, I've got cousins who are survivors, I don't think there's anybody who doesn't know someone who's been affected by breast cancer" said Borum.

A decade later, over 2,000 people turn out for the annual ride and raise hundreds of thousands of dollars. Recently, when one of Nancy's co workers developed stage four breast cancer, she knew how to help. Biker For Tatas covered all of her medical bills.

"God has been amazing through this journey, without god and without Bikers For Tatas I would never be here, cause I could never afford the bills that Nancy helps pay" said Jahn Nell Shofner.

Jahn Nell wished she could thank each person who's donated.

"I told my daughter I said 'Sis, where do we begin? Where do we start?' So it's just been amazing all of the bikers that are here that have no idea that i'm sitting around, that they're supporting me" said Shofner.

The organization also plans to cover her future bills.

"You don't even know where to begin to look cause there's so many people and so many motorcycles, and it's just been amazing. And I feel blessed" said Shafner.

Bikers For Tatas plans to present the funds to United Health Methodist sometime in October.
