Travel insurance may help you save thousands of dollars

During the peak of hurricane season, many are debating the pros and cons of travel insurance.

From natural disasters to unexpected emergencies, travel agents want to make sure you are prepared for anything.

WMBD spoke with Barbara Hoffman who is a senior travel consultant with Suzi Davis Direct Travel Company.

Hoffman says even though travel insurance costs an extra hundred dollars or so, the benefits definitely outweigh the cost.

"Say you're planning to go on a vacation to Puerto Rico," says Hoffman. "With airfare and everything else, this trip is maybe costing them about $5,000. If the didn't have travel insurance and Hurricane Jose or Maria hit, they'd be out and would lose it all."

And, depending on the insurance plan, you could be reimbursed for almost all of your trip.
