UPDATE: Normal West HS Senior dead after car accident

The driver of the other vehicle is also ticketed

BLOOMINGTON, Ill (WMBD) - A senior from Normal West High School is dead after a crash west of Normal Tuesday night.

17-year-old Olivia Sonetz of Bloomington was driving westbound at the intersection of Mitsubishi Motorway and Raab Road around 6:30 P.M. That's when state police say she turned into the intersection and collided with a southbound vehicle.

Sonetz was initially taken to Advocate BroMenn Medical Center in Bloomington, but was later transferred to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in critical condition. Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood confirms she was pronounced dead just after 5:00 P.M. Wednesday in the Surgical ICU.

The driver of the other vehicle, 23-year-old Mitchel Mohr of Bloomington, was treated at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center for minor injuries and later released.

He was ticketed for disobeying a traffic device, failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash, and failure to wear a seatbelt.
