Voluntary Restrictions for People with the Flu

If you have the flu, stay away from hospitals

MCLEAN COUNTY - Local hospitals are asking you to stay away if you're feeling sick.

Health officials in McLean County are adding to the growing list of hospitals encouraging people to stay away.

Peoria County put a voluntary restriction in place last month to limit the spread of the flu to people who are already sick.

Advocate Eureka Hospital, Advocate BroMenn Medical Center and OSF St. Joseph Medical Center joined the list Thursday.

The health department says if you want to visit somebody in a hospital you should be at least 18 years old, wash your hands before visiting a patient and stay home if you're not feeling well.

"When people are in the hospital, they can be there for a variety of reasons. An injury, a broken arm or something much more serious, and we really don't want to expose the people at the hospital, as well as catch the flu from there,” said Monica Hendrickson with the Peoria City/County Health Department.

So far 619 cases of the flu have been reported in the Peoria area.
