Washington police chief says unwarranted call prompted police to visit home on Elm Street

Unwarranted call places SWAT team at Washington home

WASHINGTON - The Washington police chief says an unwarranted call led to police to call for backup at a home on South Elm Street.

Chief Mike McCoy says a man called police and told them that he had killed his wife and one other person and was going back into a home at 108 S. Elm. When police showed up, they could not get ahold of anyone inside the home, so they called for SWAT backup.

When they eventually entered the home, they found a man who lives there asleep on the couch. Chief McCoy says a lot of unnecessary effort was expended and he's glad everyone is okay.
