Workers Reach Settlement with Contractor

PEORIA, Ill. - A Peoria hotel contractor settles with seven of his workers. The non-union workers claim Nathan Moore of NRM Renovations was not paying them in full for their work at the Sheraton Four Points hotel.

The workers say some were shorted between $400 and $3,000.

The workers went to Laborers' Local 165 for help. The union group connected the workers to a lawyer who helped them settle with Moore who agreed to pay up to $20,000.

"He's writing checks on like a person checking account, and they're all handwritten. He'd write 40-50 checks handwritten, and some of the checks some weeks wouldn't go through," Warren Little, one of those non-union workers, said.

WMBD spoke with Moore on the phone. He feels the union forced his crews out, which is why he says Hawkeye Hotels terminated its contract with him.

He said he was upfront with his workers explaining to them once the contract ended he would not be able to pay them in full.
