PEORIA – A Peoria County anti-drug coalition is inching closer to its goal of ending substance abuse in area youth.

The SAP Coalition, which stands for Substance Abuse Prevention, was started last year by Coroner Johnna Ingersoll.

She said the goal is to increase awareness and ultimately, prevent drug use in the community.

In its second year, the coalition is focused on distributing an Illinois Youth Survey to all Peoria County 6th, 8th, 10th, and 12th graders.

Ingersoll said, “Our focus here today is to ask for the help of school administrators to actually administer the Illinois youth survey to those students. So that we can in the future apply for grant funding to help prevent and reduce drug use among our youth in Peoria County.”

Ingersoll wants to get 100 percent participation in this survey. That will help the group understand where it should focus its efforts.
