The Morton community was mourning the loss of their beloved teacher and tennis coach, Joal Stanfield who passed away Wednesday night, according to Peoria County Coroner Johnna Ingersoll. Stanfield died about 6:30pm after being treated for a serious medical condition that put him in the hospital last Saturday. Stanfield helped turn the Morton High School boys tennis team into one of the best in Central Illinois. He was also a third grade teacher at Lincoln Elementary. Stanfield's peers tell us he was loved and respected by everyone he came across. An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday and funeral services are pending.
