BLOOMINGTON - The City of Bloomington has some unexpected extra cash from fiscal year 2014.

In a work session Monday finance director Patti-Lynn Silva told the council members that the city has a $1.2 million surplus.

Much of that money came from positions left vacant. Nearly $400,000 came from video gaming. The city could use that for one-time expenses, like street repairs or vehicle purchases, but Silva recommends setting it aside for a potential emergency.
