State Senator Jason Barickman of Bloomington reacted Thursday to recent media reports confirming a federal investigation into Governor Quinn's Neighborhood Recovery Initiative. Barickman, in a news release, says it raises serious concerns about a program Barickman referred to as "nothing more than a political slush fund". Barickman is one of several Illinois Republicans asking for the federal probe. Senator Barickman is co chair of the bipartisan Legislative Audit Commission which is currently reviewing the NRI audit. According to Barickman the Illinois Auditor General's report on Quinn's NRI program cited a hastily implemented program that failed to target Chicago's most violent ridden neighborhoods, noting the Quinn administration didn't adequately monitor how state grant dollars were spent.
