Bloomington Police Veteran Named Assistant Chief

Gary Sutherland, a 23 year veteran of the Bloomington Police Department, has been promoted to the position of Assistant Chief of Professional Standards. Assistant Chief Sutherland joined the force in 1991. He started as a patrol officer, then joined the Criminal Investigations Division in 2000. In 2011, he was promoted to Sergeant with assignments in the patrol division and later in the Office of Professional Standards. While at the Bloomington Police Department, Sutherland has been honored with numerous letters of commendation, a unit citation for his work in CID and three merit awards including a military ribbon, a bravery commendation and Distinguished Achievement Award.
