Peoria - A special re-dedication ceremony took place at the Glen Oak Park Lagoon today.

The park constructed the Cannon Wall back in 1898.

It features a cannon originally brought to Peoria from Santiago, Chile where it was used in the Spanish-American war.

Restorations were made to the wall in 1978.

In 2002, Peoria's park district found structural damage to the wall.

Park officials made 285,000 dollars worth of repairs to the stone wall and cannon over the past two years.

"There's a lot of historic structures in the Park District,” said President of the Peoria Park District Board Tim Cassidy. “and one of its primary missions is to preserve its history and the cannon is now a relic from the Spanish-American War. It was first cast in Spain in 1845.”

The cannon was also re-bronzed and refinished.
